Back runners
Back runners (B) receive points based
both on their ability to reach the 3rd split and their
closing ability.
A typical example of a back runners notation would
be B3.7. This dog is a back runner (B) has a 3rd split
score of 3 and a closing ability of 7.
STEP 1
In the initial part of the calculation, points are
awarded to the dogs that get to the 3rd split quickest.
This involves imply multiplying the 3rd split score
by two and then subtracting from 7.
STEP 2
The second calculation is to identify the dog or dogs
with the best closing ability and award the close call
points. This will either be the largest positive number
or the smallest negative number. The best closer (and
any dogs that tie it) will receive a score of 15 points.
The remaining animals will lose 1 point for every .1
points less than the top score.
STEP 3
You now add the 3rd split and closing ability points
together. As with the front runners, this gives a maximum
score of +20. Therefore a front runner in it’s
preferred trap with superb early speed, receives the
same number of points as a back runner that is the best
finisher but is also very strong at the 3rd split.
You may now add the final tally to your score chart.
