Inside / Outside runners
The most important point to remember
when analysing greyhounds is whether they prefer to
run on the inside or the outside.
Some tracks provide handicappers with a chart that
outlines the basic running style of each dog. From this
you can gather the dog’s track position preference
in the pack.
If this information is not freely available, it must
be ascertained by analysing box position, finish, and
race comments – all of which can be found on the
dogs’ cards.
The simplest method of calculating whether a dog is
an inside or outside front-runner is to evaluate the
race comments, box position and finish:

The dog in this example consistently performed better
from the inside. No problems were encountered when starting
from the inside. When starting outside, the dog bumped
other dogs on the way through to the inside.
