Kennels
Although kennel evaluation cannot be
considered a primary part of a handicapping system,
it is fair to say that dogs from top kennels are well
worth consideration if they also have the other necessary
criterion to make them winners. The following chart
shows an example of how kennel rankings would appear
in your program. The kennel names have been alphabetically
listed for convenience.

It is important that kennels are evaluated
either by their percentage of wins or by their percentage
of money won. In order to calculate this, simply divide
the number of starts into the number of wins and or
into a combination of firsts, seconds and thirds, depending
on which percentage you want.
For instance, if we take the first kennel on the chart,
kennel A, out of 696 starts, kennel A has shown 117
wins and finished in the money 327 times.
By dividing 696 into 117 we know that this kennel has
a 17% win ratio. It has finished in the money a very
respectable 47% of the time.
A good way to rate these kennels is to divide them
into five categories based on their win or their “in
the money” percentage.
