Race evaluation
Once you have determined the inside outside
running preference for each creature, you need to look
at the big picture and make a note of how it fits together
for the race as a whole.

In this race, you can predict an awful lot of potential
problems. The dogs in traps 2 and 3 are likely to drift
inside, which could cause problems for both of them
and for the dog in trap 1. Potentially as big a problem
though, is the dog in trap 6, which is likely to try
and cut right across. If it was blessed with blistering
starting speed, it might manage to do this, but there
is lots of scope for getting tangled with the other
dogs on the way. You can visualise these sorts of problems,
using a chart similar to this one:

In some respects, if he can avoid being hit by the
dog in the trap outside him, the way may be clear for
the dog in trap 5 to get round the outside uncontested,
while the other dogs jostle position on the inside.
