Rising and dropping dogs
Statistically, a dog moving up into a
grade in which it has never competed will win only 15%
of the time. Their odds also tend to be low due to the
tendency of the public to overreact to their recent
win and because they seem currently in good form. The
advice here is never to bet on first race dogs as you
may well find they are outclassed.
Dogs that drop in grade are usually out of form, and
this can make them look bad on paper. This is why the
crowd often allows them to race at better odds than
they actually should. Considering the same crowd overplays
recent winners going up in grade, class droppers are
definitely worth betting on.
